Maistra, Inc. was created in March, 2005, inheriting 50 years of experience in tourist business, which in combination with application of new technologies, through implementation of international standards of tourism industry, respect of all norms of sustainable development and a special sensibility towards environment preservation as the most important resource, and represent the foundation of future company development.
Maistra, Inc. has set ambitious goals for itself regarding the development of tourism portfolio and creating and building of own tourism brands of the highest quality content and services. In accordance with the set goals, Maistra, Inc. has positioned itself as a leader of the national tourism development.
The mission of Maistra, Inc. is to become a first-class and recognisable tourism company and destination on the Adriatic coast which will, with the strong reliance on destination brands and offering of authentic Istrian, Croatian and Mediterranean atmosphere, highly personalised and hospitable services, and the development of modern and competitive content, enable the making of true experiences with the goal of satisfying the needs of the most demanding guests and with the goal of positioning among the best tourist companies on the Mediterranean.
With the goal of carrying out its development plans, Maistra, Inc. has formed the strategic development which includes exhaustive projects of construction and renewal of all existing tourist objects and complexes. By the end of 2009, Maistra, Inc. will finish the investment cycle in the amount of 230 million €, which makes it the biggest tourism investor in the region. Besides the development of contents meant for accommodation tourism, it is important to emphasise that in the strategic development plan a special accent is put on the development of complementary contents (congress contents, sports contents, wellness contents and other contents meant for the special interest segment) which will enable opening of new market segments and a yearly intensive tourist activity at the destination.
The implementation of the plan started in 2005 with the investments into tourist settlements Petalon in Vrsar and Amarin in Rovinj, as well as investments aimed at improving the contents in camps in both destinations.
In 2006, the investments totalled €78 million. There was the €13 million investment into tourist resort Belvedere in Vrsar, while in the nature park Koversad, in apartment settlement also in Vrsar, €7 million was invested with which the category of these two settlements has been raised to 4 stars. One of the most significant projects in 2006 is the investment into hotel Istra, worth €26 million, with which the hotel has become recognisable by the first wellness centre in Croatia. In a currently leading hotel of Maistra, Inc., hotel Eden, also in Rovinj, with investments in 2006 the quality of all accommodation units has been improved, along with a part of common rooms and contents.
In 2007, investments have included the beginning phase of construction of the Monte Mulini zone, as well as the preparation of finishing the tourist resort Belvedere. The investments continued in 2008 when the value reached €91 million. The main focus was on the finishing of started investments on hotels Monte Mulini and Lone, which are the part of the Monte Mulini zone, which will, by the end, become a luxurious tourist zone. The other investments included tourist settlements in Vrsar – Petalon, Belvedere and Koversada apartments totalling €9 million, which are, at the moment, with a completely circled offer, positioned among the leading products of the type in Croatia. Maistra, Inc. marked the last year with another investment, buying the hotel complex Katarina, located on the island of the same name by the old city of Rovinj.
The year 2009 represents a turning point in the tourism offer of the destination itself, equally as the company. By opening the first 5-star hotel in Rovinj – Monte Mulini, exclusive hotel adjusted to the highest luxury standards, whose total investment was in the amount of €27 million, Maistra, Inc. gave to Rovinj and Croatia a completely new quality dimension.
In the next two years, Maistra, Inc. will continue with ambitious investments with the goal of offering a wide spectrum of possibilities and a higher level of quality which will in the future change the perception of Rovinj as a city and position it into an unavoidable luxury tourist destination with an around-the-year business. The company is first in Croatia to introduce the all-suite concept into an object being renovated at the position of existing dependencies on the Sv. Andrija Island, while this year the construction of the new hotel Lona is starting. It will be the first design 5-star hotel in Croatia (a €40 million investment). In 2009, the already started investments are continuing in the resort Amarin, where a construction of a wellness hotel is planned, worth €22 million, which will completely circle the offer of this resort.
The upcoming investment cycle will include the new renewal projects and repurposing of existing tourist objects within Rovinj and Vrsar. The investments which will be presented are hotel Katarina on the island of the same name, which will become a new luxury 5+-star hotel. The spaces of the former tobacco factory will be put into a tourist function, while at the place of the existing hotel Pineta, Vrsar will get the representative hotel, which will be the carrier of its image and destination. At the same time, with the construction of new hotels and resorts, Maistra, Inc. will start the development of project plans of the construction of first golf courses in the portfolio.
