Top 10 things to do in Rovinj

1. Climbing the tower of St. Euphemia
The tower of St. Euphemia is the highest point in Rovinj from where you can enjoy the view of the city and the Rovinj archipelago. Today’s tower is a replica of the bell tower of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. On its spire stands a bronze statue of Saint Euphemia which revolves on its axis and shows the direction of the wind with her right hand. Be sure to visit the Baroque church in which the sarcophagus of the city’s patron is kept.

2. A stroll through the old city
The most famous street in the city is Carrera abounding with galleries and small shops. Bregovita Street is considered the most beautiful and the inevitable Grisia is renowned for its traditional painting exhibit. All these streets can be visited during a light half-hour stroll.

The protected Golden Cape Park Forest is an inevitable destination for enjoying walks, cycling or hiking through nature. The oldest protected park in the Istrian area is adorned by Himalayan Cedars, alleys of exotic cypresses and Mediterranean vegetation.

4. Visit to the Batana Museum
Rovinj has a long fishing tradition hence it dedicated a museum to its small wooden flatboat – the batana. The museum is modern and of a multimedial character where you will be able to see a 15 minute projection about the crafting of the flatboat along with the sounds of bitinada (characteristic Rovinj a capella song).

5. Visit to Monkodonjo
The ancient settlement of Monkodonjo dates back to the Bronze Age and is located 5 km east of Rovinj. Exceptionally conserved, encircled with walls over 1 km long, it is composed of three parts: the central barrow, the crafts district and the living quarters. It is estimated that over one thousand inhabitants lived here.

Located only 10 km from Rovinj, this boggy area is famous for its richness of bird species. Palud is the only protected ornithological reserve in Istria and its biodiversity is due to the fusion bog and sea.
